Tim Westwood Leaves Radio 1

Tim Westwood has been the voice of hip hop on BBC Radio since 1994, but he is to leave the station after nearly 20 years of being on air following a change to the Saturday night schedule.

55 year old Westwood will leave the station in September when the new schedule begins, he will be replaced by Charlie Sloth taking over the 9pm slot.

Charlie joined Radio 1Xtra in 2010 and by 2012 he had replaced Westwood in the drive time show Monday to Friday from 4 to 7pm.

The new schedule will begin on September 21st, with Mista Jam kicking things off at 7pm, then Charlie Sloth on at 9pm and then DJ Target at 11pm.

The station’s controller Ben Cooper said:

‘I’d like to thank Tim for the last 20 years on Radio 1, his passion for hip-hop is legendary – I wish him all the very best.’

 ‘I’m very excited about having a great new line-up for the next generation of Radio 1 and 1Xtra listeners.
