Itch FM – Dedicated to Hip Hop
MC Lyte set up a non-profit organisation called the Hip Hop Sisters Network which promotes positive images of women of ethnic diversity, bringing figure heads together from the entertainment industry and the corporate world
She recently stated in an interview with VladTV, “I’m putting all of my efforts to raise money to send kids to college,” MC Lyte says in the interview. “With education comes options. When you don’t have options, you look to other ways to make money and sometimes those ways lead to illegal activity.”
MC Lyte conveyed how she felt the education system is on a downward spiral and the government was to blame. She said now you have children saying they don’t want to go to school, and teachers that don’t care about children’s education.
Recently she released a track featuring Common entitled “Dear John” to create awareness for the education cause. The foundation has already presented two $100,000 university scholarships each year since the organisations founding.
This year the foundation will up the stakes by presenting dozens of scholarships earmarked to send men to HBCU’s.
