Iconic Group Sugar Hill Gang's Big Hank Has Died

On Tuesday 11th November Big Hank real name Henry Jackson aged 57 from the iconic Hip Hop group Sugar Hill Gang passed away. It is rumoured his was suffering with cancer for sometime.

Sugarhill Gang members Wonder Mike and Master Gee stated “”So sad to hear of our brother’s passing. Rest in peace Big Bank”.

The Sugarhill Gang hit stardom with the release of their 1979 record, “Rapper’s Delight”. Big Hank’s famous line was “Everybody go: Hotel, motel, Holiday Inn / You see, if your girl starts acting up, then you take her friend.”

While Rappers Delight was not the first single to feature rapping, it is generally considered to be the song that first popularized hip hop in the United States of America and around the world.

The song was ranked #248 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and #2 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs.

We at Itch FM send our Condolences to Big Hank’s family and the legendary Sugar Hill Gang.
