Well, today I was listening to our very own DJ El Nino’s MidWeekMixup Show and heard him play a track entitled “This is Just Me” by a North London group called Halfpenny.
I went hunting for the track like a mad man possessed and found it on Spotify, and I have had the track on repeat all day.
I couldn’t get enough of them, so I found their video on Youtube, and I think I might have notched up over 100 views for them from just me alone.

I just couldn’t stop listening. Personally, I find the track refreshing, and musically on point to say the least.
Halfpenny draw their influences from Hip Hop and Jazz, which you can hear in their exquisite instrumentation, layered by silky vocals and dope rapping.
The North London collective have performed alongside impressive fellow North Londoners Bombay Bicycle Club, as well as Andreya Triana, and was also showcased by BBC Introducing at the beginning of 2017.
And if that’s not enough, the group’s multi-talented beatboxer Marcus Fraser is an actor, and his big screen debut was in Transformers, The Last Knight. I’m just saying!
They released their debut EP “Halfcut” in 2015 with distinguished producer George Shilling, whose had production credits on De La Soul, Mary J Blige, and Oasis material to name a few.
This is another example of the great talent these British shores have to offer. I can’t wait for them to bring out more material.
Don’t ignore Halfpenny, they’ve got a very very bright future, but their future could be even brighter if you show your appreciation for their efforts and show your support.
