Yep, you read the title right, Dr Dre is set to become hip hop’s first billionaire.
Here’s the deal… Apple, the big computer and software company we all love (well, most of us do here at Itch) are in the near enough final stages of doing it’s biggest acquisition of headphones, speakers and streaming service company Beats for 3.2 Billy – yes that’s with a “B”!
Because the Dr has part ownership with Jimmy Iovine and the Carlyle Group, they should get a hefty chunk of cash when the deal gets finalised.
If you haven’t seen it, Dre is currently the number 2 on the Forbes Hip Hop rich list with an estimated personal wealth of $550 million. Puff Daddy is number 1 with an estimated $700 million.
However, with this deal that top spot will be Dre’s!
According to some, Dr Dre will be worth $800 million, after taxes, etc. So, not quite the billion dollar mark, but damn close.
Neither Beats or Apple has confirmed the deal, but Dr Dre more or less confirms this in the video below.
