Itch FM – Dedicated to Hip Hop
I’ll remind you. It’s 2001, So solid crew drop ’21 seconds’, ‘Area Codes‘ is released by Ludacris and Nate Dogg, also the Legendary UK Hip Hop label YNR Productions bring out ‘Tommy Evans – The 4 Elements’ EP.
The 4 Elements is an excellent project and includes features from Taskforce, Usmaan and Jehst. It’s definitely worth a listen if you haven’t heard it already.
However, there is one track on the EP that has always stuck out to me. Ophelia.
Maybe it’s the fact that you can relate, male or female and even though it was put out 12 years ago, it will always be relevant to someone somewhere. A boy-meets-girl story that actually holds value and makes you listen carefully to every single word.
The beat was produced by Evil-Ed and Jehst using the iconic 1980s sampler the Akai S950, with a record that was found by Evil Ed from a charity shop in Huddersfield.
Once you the hear the song, you won’t forget the sound. Whenever you hear the first three seconds of the beat you know it’s Ophelia and with Tommy Evans’ lyrical abilities and unique sound over the beat it becomes a classic.
If you listen closely you can even hear Jehst Ad-libbing at the end of the song, which apparently Tommy Evans didn’t know about until the track was released.
Big shout outs to Tommy Evans, Jehst and Evil Ed for making this timeless piece of music. If this song doesn’t bring back memories, maybe it’ll give you new ones.
