Charlie Sloth has put together Rap Britannia which is a new kind of 1Xtra Story, which you can watch, as well as listen to, via the 1Xtra homepage, or the BBC’s Red Button service on your TV tonight (23rd September at 9pm)
In 2011 Charlie Sloth went on a road trip to learn about rap Up North. He discovered a thriving MC scene which the mainstream media didn’t seem to know existed
This year he’s taking his search for homegrown talent Nationwide. Watch or Listen as Charlie sets off on a journey to experience the different rap scenes in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – and tries to unite us through rhyme. He’ll hear freestyles on the Shankill Road in Belfast, learn a bar or two in Welsh and host a rap showcase at the Edinburgh Festival.
Along the way he’ll be putting his production skills to the test by creating a UK Rap Anthem which – with the help of MCs from across the British Isles – will rep’ the strength and diversity of UK Rap to the world.
