Bugzy Malone - Facing Time

Manchesters Bugzy Malone, seems to go from strength to strength. His recent return to 1Xtra for his second “Fire In The Booth” we witnessed an artist reaching new lyrical heights, live on air.

“Facing Time” went straight in to the number one spot on the I-Tunes chart when it was released yesterday. Some people may question this, but the support has always been there for Bugzy Malone and he is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with in grime.

8 Tracks in length giving us a near perfect insight into an artist who has two very strong sides to his arsenal. Coming from the road life its a no brainer that he delivers a certain amount of street related content as well as the stereotypical bravado lyrics. What we get to witness on this latest EP is a lighter side to his character. With a grime meets R&B style production “Beauty & The Beast” Bugzy Malone takes us back to a relationship that was at conflict with the life he grew up living. He paints a picture as vivid as a blu ray on a wide screen flatscreen. Raw, heartfelt and a quality grime slow jam.

The stand out singles that have been facing heavy radio play from myself and other DJs across the UK: Mosh Pit Gang, Gone Clear and Late Night In The 0161. Give this EP the right balance of hype, plus with the Z-Dot produced “I Suggest” already trending across twitter, the big summer anthems are all here.

What i love about Bugzy Malone is that he stays 110% true to himself at all times. Lyrics about the roads, selling drugs, getting into trouble, fights and bravado are all the tools of his trade. Plus he always manages to pick the right tracks to base his lyrical stories and with one of the best voices in grime, it works so well.

The big question in 2016 is will grime last or will it slip off the radar again? With releases like “Facing Time” charting straight in at number one. Giving us a balance of grime and hiphop flows with a pick n mix of some exceptional production. I think the question really is, how much better is grime going to get in 2016? The bar keeps getting set higher and higher with every new release that drops.
